Come together at this time of year
At this time of year
Verse 1
Families come in different sizes (claps)
Families are full of surprises (claps)
Some are small and some are quiet
Some are big and cause a riot!
Through the years we see the changes
Babies grow into teenagers
CHORUS
Interlude
Different cultures and traditions
Different customs and religions
With your friends and your relations
Come and join our celebration!
In class, we’ve been doing some rhythm cup playing to ‘Can-Can’ composed by Jacques Offenbach.
Offenbach was a German-born French composer who wrote ‘Can-Can’ as part of one of his operetta’s “Orphée aux enfers” (Orpheus in the Underworld). This operetta premiered in Paris in 1858.
The Can-can itself is a high-energy dance that became a sensation in the dance halls of 19th-century Paris. Over the years, the Can-can has been featured in numerous films, stage productions, and adaptations. Its high-energy, rebellious spirit has made it a timeless and recognisable part of popular culture, often associated with the vibrant and bohemian atmosphere of Paris in the 19th century.
Here’s an example of the dance:
Here are the video’s we’ve been working on with Kaboom:
This week, Yr 2’s, 3’s and 4’s have focused on this fabulous piece of music. You can watch the Seattle Symphony Orchestra perform it below or enjoy the Line Rider version which features our little rider sledding past bar numbers, dynamic and articulation markings.
Peer Gynt was composed by:
Composer: Edvard Grieg
Country of Origin: Norway
Born: 1843 Died: 1907
Peer Gynt premiered in 1876 and was written to accompany a play by Norwegian writer Henrik Ibsen. It remains among the most popular of Grieg’s compositions.
Here are the rhythms for us to learn. In Year 4, we don’t need to worry about the dotted minim but I’ve kept it here in case!
With a new year, comes a new blog and a new Music Teacher!

Peter and the Wolf’ was written by the Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev. Have a look at this awesome video performed by the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and narrated AND conducted by Mr. Bramwell Tovey.
Here’s a bit of fun for your day. Remember the name to this piece.
When some one sings ‘duh duh duh duuuuuuhh’ and you tell them that it’s Beethoven’s 5th Symphony, they will think you’re very smart.
‘Djinda Djinda’ is one of our whole school songs which is the Ngoongar version of ‘Twinkle Twinkle’. It was translated and performed by Gina Williams and Guy Ghouse.
